Re: I'm basically dead. What now?
Everything Kevstev said is important, but I can see how those things might be going over your head as a new player. Let me clarify a few things for you in hopes that you are not discouraged to continue playing.
First, this is not like most other games. Keeping that in mind, you will need to understand one very crucial game mechanic in Haypi that might differ from any previous games you have played. What you need to realize right now is that your city is not important.
Thats right. Your city is not important. If you try to defend your city with troop early on you will fall into the most common death trap in this game. There is no reason for you to defend it. Yes, you will loose resources. That is inevitable. However, you will also loose resources by retraining troops that will undoubtedly be killed again if you continue playing with that mentality. By keeping your troops alive, you can in turn regain all your lost resources by attacking other inactive players in turn.
Now, this mentality should only apply to your main city. The same may not be said for any other cities you control, but that is a fight you need not worry yourself with just yet.
So now that you know what the most important think for new players is, you just need to continue on to the second, and that is to make yourself to be an undesirable target.
Not leaving troops in your city is the #1 thing you have to do in order to make yourself undesirable. Troops are worth prestige. As players go up in rank, they will need more and more of it. They WILL come across you as they scan the map for targets, but you will likely be ignored if you leave no troops there. This is where the previously mentioned "Hunting" comes to play.
Hunting is the only real way to hide your troops from all other players. When troops are out hunting, they are completely untouchable. You might also consider dispatching to other properties as troops in transit are equally unavailable to attackers, but this is very counter productive. Since you generally get better results the longer you are out hunting, so there is no reason why you wouldn't do it anyways as it will be a steady source of Gold income for the rest of the game.
The second thing to do to make yourself undesirable is to keep your resources low. Resources are the second most priced comodity in the game right after prestige. If you have full resources, while your neighbor of the same level has nothing, that level 9 player that is two blocks away from you will attack you as soon as he realizes he needs a few more points of Wood to train the 200 Catapults he is planning on training.
You keep resources low by constantly spending them. While there is no need for you to defend your city, improving your buildings IS very important. Place all the resources you can spare in improving these. Then use the rest to train fresh troops. Finally, place whatever you have left on the market to be bought by other players. Easy, right?
No troop + no resources = no attacks. Well, not exactly. There will always be players that just don't like you and they want to torment you. Thats when the third and final undesirability method comes in. You already know how to make it so that they dont gain anythinig from attacking you, now its time make them LOOSE troops and resources when they attack you.
All you have to do is invest in another way for you to burn resources. Build traps or turrets on your city's wall. At the lower levels, you should ignore turrets and just build traps. These will kill any troops that with to hit you before they reach your city coffers. Once a player realizes that he will always loose troops attacking you while he gains nothing in return, he will stop attacking you in the future.
There are many other tricks to do in this game, but those are the basic three all new players should know. In sumary:
- Hide your troops by sending them on hunts.
- Keep your resources low by constantly upgrading your buildings.
- Build traps to discourage future attacks.
Hope that reading this will help you to make a decision to come back to the game.
Cheers.
