How does "defence" work??

Hi guy, I was wondering about how does "defence" work.
Does it only work when somebody attack me, or it also effects when I attack someone? like, does it help when the enime's troops/ turrets attack me when Im attacking the city?

Thanks for helping :)

it helps keep stuff from dying. AKA ur troops get a better chance to win. Very helpful if you like cavs or archers :?: . It happens when you attack AND when you defend. Uranos im not understanding ur post O.o lol

Re: How does "defence" work??

Lol, thx for trying though.
So there are two parts about my question. The first one is absolutely when someone's attacking, like, he sends troops to attack my city, the value of defence start working. That's what defence for, isn't it? :) But, how about when Im attacking someone?

When Im attacking someone, he is the defender, Im the attacker. It's absolutely that the system starts counting my attacking value, but when I attack someone, I also get attacked back by his defending. Does the system count my defence value at this moment? Do you have the picture??? I hope I made it easier to understand...

Re: How does "defence" work??

Your defense status is global accross all troops in all situations.

It essentially makes them sturdier in battle.
Say 5 cats attacked your 10 cav. With low defence, you could be wiped easily (depending on the cat attack, shooting etc) but if you had high defence, you may only lose 8.

It's easier to think of all of one troop type as ONE unit, I find.
High defence means more dmg your unit can take thus less losses.

You have your 10 cav (as one unit), so lets say that means this one unit has ten health bars;
Cav; - - - - - - - - - -
Attacked by 5 catapuls may reduce your health of said unit to 0.
Now lets say you beef up your defence. You still have ten health bars but after battle concludes, you still have two remaining due to the lesser damage incurred (thanks to defence).
^ This is completely hypothetical but hopefully clear enough.

That was really helpful and clear. Be honestly, you've answered my question in the first sentence already. Thx for giving that whole lot of explanation though! So "defense" is quite important in this game.

Re: How does "defence" work??

VERY important, especially for cav armies. Having max def can half your losses of no a no defense general title... I believe each stat point ads .5% def to the unit itself... So cavs have 175 def, having 100 defense stats (including items) means their new def is 175•1.5=262.5 (based on 100•.5%=50%...+100% of actual value) a LOT bette than previous, throw some tech in there and armor/manual and uve got an army that can take a hit

i hope this makes sense, its kinda confusing even when i read it -.-

Re: How does "defence" work??

How does defense and health differ?

I noticed that when you attack cats with cats, you kill 2/3 your number, so that is 300/450 = 0.66 , right? So does defense get ignored if the attack level is stronger than the defense? I tested this with a friend, with equal attack and defense stats, tech, treasures etc.

If defense and health were counted together, wouldn't it be (450+100)/300 = 0.54 ?

I've been reading the forums a while but never posted .. but can't find the answer to this one!

Re: How does "defence" work??

You have to take out an opponents defense and then you can take their life (equivalent of hit points). Life points do not change but defense can be increased.

With no bonuses, the first 25 attack point against an archer goes to take out their defense and then the next 125 to kill them. This applies to each archer, so 150 attack points to eliminate each archer. If they have a 20% defense bonus, then the defense jumps from 25 to 30 and still have the 125 life points, or 155 total attack points to kill.

Cavs with high defense bonus are great because they start with 175 defense and have 500 life points (675 total) against say a cat with 100 defense and 450 life points (550 total). Because the bonuses are based on percentage, the cavs jump proportionally higher since they have the highest defense. While cats have a higher attack, they have a lower defense, just another strategy factor to consider.
