Change to another server

 give it a few weeks and mabey you and your friend can be on the same server. Look it now as you can lvl up and gain more knowledge about the game before u invite someone to the game so when / if they are n the same server u will be able to help them out more. I know where u are comming from. I got my CO from my ship to join the game and now he's a lvl 16 amd at the same time can launch nukes from our ship.  so he's always asking me questions about the game . 
